Snowpocolypse Emergency Checklist: What You Need To Survive

Up here in the Great North East, we are experiencing a winter to write home about. These past few weeks have been treacherous for any of those who dare shovel their car out and hit the road. After weeks, upon weeks, of snow related accidents, and the twenty car pile-up that we suffered last week locally, I thought maybe we should all just run down a quick checklist of items that could save your life in an emergency on the road. Remember, even something simple like your car battery dying could kill you in sub zero temps, if you aren't prepared to be without heat while you wait for a tow service. Due to the amount of help needed across the region during these storms, there is no telling how long you could be waiting for assistance. Most of these items are inexpensive, and you probably already have most of them in your home already, so toss them in the trunk, for the love of God! Now seriously though, please take care to avoid winter snow calamities by assessing this Emergency Winter Car Checklist because there won't always be a TaunTaun handy if you find yourself cold on the side of the road.

1. Mylar Blankets

2. Kitty Litter

3. Collapsible Shovel

4. Windshield Wiper Fluid

5. Granola Bars

6. Battery Charger

This solar powered hand held portable phone charger is a must have.

7. Books

Speaking of charging your phone, let's not drain your battery while we wait for help to arrive. If you have children, keep some kids books handy as well.

8. Flashlight

9. Water

10. Portable Hand Warmers

11. First Aid Kit

12. Change of Clothes

This may sound like NBD but believe me, you do not want to shovel your stuck tires, or assess your flat, in the heels you wore to work today.

13. Flares, Reflectors, Hazard Lights

14. Scraper with Broom

15. Sleeping Bag
