I love the many, many, delicious, warm, wonderful, aromatic things about Autumn. The one thing that bums me out about the coming of the darker seasons, is that the beautifully cheerful flowers of spring and summer, fade. We NEED flowers. As Emerson dwelled on such a subject with an air of romanticism, quoth he, 'The Earth laughs in flowers.'. Or Freud, in more practical phrasing, declares, 'Flowers are restful to look at. They have neither emotion nor conflict.' For this reason, in Autumn, I am grateful for the beauty of Aster. When all else is preparing for surrender, Aster, especially the lavender variety, still graces us with its divine resilience.
Plant. Enjoy. Better yet: plant, so that we may all enjoy!
